The Proven Pathway to Work as a Physiotherapist in the UK

Whether you’re an internationally trained physiotherapist or planning your next career move, the first step is understanding how HCPC registration works and which route applies to your background.

What Is HCPC?

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is a regulatory body in the United Kingdom responsible for protecting the public by setting and maintaining standards for professional training, performance, and conduct for 15 health and care professions. This includes physiotherapists, paramedics, radiographers, and more. Professionals must meet these standards to register with HCPC and legally practice in the UK.

What are the Eligibility Requirements?

You must have completed physiotherapy training outside the UK (BPT or MPT). You need at least 1-2 years of relevant clinical experience.
Applicants must either have, IELTS (minimum 7.0 in each section), TOEFL iBT (minimum 100), or proof that your degree was taught and examined entirely in English in an HCPC-approved English-speaking country.
You must provide detailed evidence of your clinical training hours across key areas: neurology, respiratory care, and musculoskeletal practice.
On average, international applications take 3-6 months to process, depending on documentation and assessment requirements.
